About Taste First

Welcome to Taste First, the home of great tasting experiences where we really do think that taste should always come first! Rather than using fancy descriptions or designs to convince you of certain wines, we think that you should be able to make up your own mind through the power of your own taste (ok maybe with a little guidance from us).

The whole idea is that you get to try different things where the emphasis is on having a fun, enjoyable evening with a few of your friends or family where not only do you get to taste the quality but you will also be able to learn a few things and score the different beverages on the night.

HOME IS WHERE THE WINE IS

Our story

Taste First was formed in February 2020, in fact as the story goes James started the business in February 2020, the country went into lockdown in March 2020 and he then quit his job in April 2020 to focus on launching the business. With over 20 years of experience within the retail sector and having worked in the wine business for 5 years the focus was clear from the start. We want to be a business that focuses on providing a great tasting experience for people as well as offering a more personal, informal approach. The tastings are great ways for people to explore the world of wine whilst in the company of friends and family and all from the comfort of your own home. Whilst wine tastings in themselves are nothing new, adding the ‘at home’ element in as well as the personal delivery offers something different.

James managed to recruit a couple of good people who know about their wines which means that we can now offer home tastings in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Yorkshire. We are a fully independent business which allows us to put together our own selections and trial new things as we see fit. We have really enjoyed exhibiting at the food shows over the last year and will be looking at increasing the number of shows in 2023. The lockdown really helped me to get the business to where it is now by giving me the time to put together all the wine selections and get the structure in place for the tasting evenings. Wherever possible I have looked at using other small independent businesses for our printing, social media, web design and promotions.

The future looks even more exciting now as we are in the process of opening our first tasting room and wine shop in Nottingham. Details will be coming soon.

Why Taste First?

We really love and care about what we do. Our customers always come first and we will always do our best to make your experience with us one of a kind.

As a small business ourselves, wherever possible James (founder) has looked at using other small independent businesses for our printing, social media, web design and promotions.

“The opposite of big, bold and fruity wines. The term ‘elegant’ is used to describe understated wines with higher acidity and more ‘restrained’ characteristics. They often taste ‘tight’ when first released but tend to have good ageing potential.”
